2010 NZCT AIMS GAMES

The NZCT AIMS GAMES is a strategic partnership between Sport Bay of Plenty, the four Western Bay Intermediate Schools and the Tauranga City Council. All individual and team sports are superbly organised and ran to a very high standard and we link with various sporting clubs and Regional Sporting Organisations to achieve this.

The sporting championships gives Year 7 and 8 students an opportunity to compete as an individual or in a team against the best of their age in New Zealand in a variety of different sports. Each of the sports offered are hosted in superb facilities where the best in the country for their age have the opportunity to perform at their best. The aim of the event is to provide opportunities for the student in the middle years to be active, celebrate fair play and enjoy success and it is through events such as the NZCT AIMS GAMES that these students will be provided with challenges and the opportunity to perform to a high standard.

In six years, the NZCT AIMS GAMES have gone from a small festival of sport, to what are now considered the National Championships for Intermediate and Middle schools. Since our inception in 2004 we have grown from 830 competitors representing 22 schools and four sporting codes to 2009 with over 3100 competitors representing 88 schools in 13 sports. They were supported by over 800 coaches, managers and officials
and a large number of supporters/spectators. For the very first time in 2010 we welcome the sport of Rugby Sevens taking AIMS to 14 sports.

Hand in hand with the growth, has been the emergence of the NZCT AIMS GAMES as a pathway, to sporting achievement and success.
